Backyard Wedding | Megan + Tyler

Megan + Tyler were seriously such a S W E E T couple to work with! Lead planner Kellie loved planning this backyard tent wedding. The couple was married on the groom’s family property – ceremony site down by the lake, with the tent set up a short walk away on open grass!

Leading up to the wedding, the days were rainy, but the day of the wedding turned out G O R G E O U S [sunny, and full of excitement!]. Kellie, Olivia + Kayla showed up early to help get the tent dry, prepped, and decorated along with help from the family. We’ve Got It Covered did lighting and draping in the tent – which we always love that extra touch! The ladies got ready in the main house, while the guys prepped in the guest house. Tessa June Photography was there to capture the whole day, and we loved working with her – she has such great energy! The bride did a first look with her girls before doing one with her future hubby – all reactions were P R I C E L E S S!

The ceremony set up was S T U N N I N G – guests walked from the parking area down a path that brought you to the site down by the lake. There was a beautiful handmade arch with draping + decor, an old dresser set up with the unity symbol and shepherds hooks with lanterns hung on them – truly a sight to see! The ceremony entrance featured the Rustic Elegance doors along with some floral. The wedding party processed from a point up the hill, and then the bride & her dad came in with a surprise entrance down the trail, giving them a little bit of a longer walk together. The groom’s reaction was one that all bride’s hope for + Tessa captured the best photos! After the ceremony, the bridal party headed to the garage/guest house for a toast while guests proceeded to the tent.

Cocktail hour was sweet – guests were able to grab a cocktail at the bar and snacks on the tables outside of the tent. The wedding party made their grand entrance as did the couple – complete with a ride in on a V I N T A G E car! Dinner was provided buffet style by Just North of Memphis – filled with BBQ options that we loved! Speeches were made by the bride’s twin sister & MOH, the best man, and family members. Then it was time for dancing & desserts. Nothing Bundt Cakes were spread throughout the dessert table – such a Y U M M Y set up!! The Rusted Revolver, a live band that played underneath the tent and kept the guests dancing all night long!

Backyard Wedding | Molly + Justin

Molly + Justin said their “I do’s” on the groom’s family property, and celebrated after with a huge tent reception. Lead planner Kellie loved working with the family [Justin’s brother, Josh also had a tent wedding that Rustic Elegance helped plan] and working on the charming property. It was so fun to plan a wedding for siblings – only a few months between the two!

The morning of the wedding, lead planner Kellie and assistants Kelly + Kayla arrived to help prep the tent + decor. The weather was iffy in the morning – the team watched closely and prayed for it to clear up in time for an O U T S I D E ceremony. The ladies + gentlemen got ready in their home on the property. Once it cleared up, the couple was able to do their first look at the ceremony site [complete with a G O R G E O U S homemade arch] that was sweet and intimate.

After the first look, the wedding party captured some photos inside in intermittent sprinkling of rain, and then got some W O N D E R F U L photos in the woods. Finally, it was time to make the call on having the ceremony under the tent or trusting Mother Nature not to rain any longer. 30 minutes prior to the wedding, Rustic Elegance + the couple decided to have the wedding outside, and with the help family + friends, were able to move the chairs out from the tent into ceremony formation. Without a hitch, the ceremony went perfectly, with only a slight drizzle at the beginning. The couple recessed by doing a receiving line to greet their guests, and guests moved over to the tent for cocktail hour.

The couple then took a ride on the horse drawn carriage provided by Independence Carriage [who we just love working with] and took in a moment alone before joining guests back for cocktail hour. By this time the sun was out in full force, and guests were able to enjoy horse rides until dinner [so fun + guests L O V E D it!]. Dinner was catered in by Russell’s on the Lake and was A M A Z I N G! Guests enjoyed dinner, speeches and laughter before it was time to dance. PM Enterprise DJ Luke got the party started post-dinner, and guests delighted in yummy cupcakes for dessert! As the end of the night neared, guests lined up for a sparkler send-off to wish the newlyweds fair well for the evening!

Rolling Ridge | Styled Shoot

Along with a few other great vendors, we were chosen to help with a Styled Shoot, at the beautiful Rolling Ridge Wedding and Event Center. We absolutely L O V E D every minute of this fun shoot! We went with a fall theme, sporting some plaid and cozy feelings throughout. Our outstanding vendor team took the already romantic venue and added cozy & woodsy decor to create this romantic look. The florals from St. Cloud Floral were A M A Z I N G and bold – adding such a difference to the table setting. Rustic Elegance brought in rental decor including farm tables, vintage plates, wine barrels with door for desserts, lanterns, and Mr. & Mrs. pillows. Geyer Rental brought in the dinner chairs, the gold silverware, sofa and backdrop, adding more decor throughout the shoot. We also were so in L O V E with Paper Thick Ink’s graphic touches throughout the shoot including the invitations, popcorn bag programs, and guest favor tags.

This rustic venue is located in Saint Joseph, MN, right off of I-94. The venue lays on 14 acres of natural beauty – hills, mature trees and views of fields and water that aren’t easily compared to other locations. The barn is 120-years old and can comfortable seat 300 guests, and also has heating/cooling features depending on what time of year your wedding is in. The barn was moved from its original place of standing, but the foundation was left as is, which now can be used for a backdrop for your wedding ceremony. We absolutely L O V E doing weddings at this venue, and working with the owners.

Katelin + Jeremy | Almquist Farm

Katelin + Jeremy were seriously the sweetest couple to work with! Lead coordinator Kayla loved getting together with Katelin to plan and also enjoyed their in depth phone convos with the bride! The couple decided on getting married at Almquist Farm, on a beautiful Sunday in the fall. The farm has a stunning ceremony site, bridal/grooms rooms for both the guys and for the girls, a large lawn perfect for cocktail hour or an outdoor dinner, and a large reception barn with capacity for 340 guests. We love working at Almquist + the owners Paul & Kari are A M A Z I N G!

The ladies spent the morning getting ready in the adorable onsite bridal suite with getting their hair and makeup done. While the girls got ready, Rustic Elegance unpacked and placed decor all over the property! The day was beautiful, and perfect for the outdoor ceremony. The couple rented two of the barrels from Rustic Elegance which were placed at the entrance of the ceremony site, one with pretty flowers and the other housed their guestbook. Kevin Wood Photography snapped photos of the first look, bridal party, and family before the ceremony [and got some adorable shots]!

Finally, it was time for these two to tie the knot! Katelin walked elegantly down the long green-filled pathway to meet Jeremy at the front of the aisle. Almquist has three beautiful decor options for the ceremony: a gorgeous birchwood circular arch, a wooden trellis, or a cross to go behind the couple. After the ceremony was finished and these two sealed the deal with a kiss, guests followed by greeting them in a receiving line, and went to the cocktail hour hosted on the large lawn outside of the barn. This Little Piggy catered in a few buffet style appetizers, while the Almquist team manned the bar. Guests then headed into the reception barn where This Little Piggy had set up a delicious buffet style meal.

After dinner, Midwest Sound turned up the volume and got the party started! The couple enjoyed their special first dance, and then the rest of the guest joined them on the dance floor. For dessert, This Little Piggy brought an assortment of sweet treats out that guests loved.

Melissa + Matt | Dellwood Country Club

Our lead coordinator, Kayla, had SO much for planning with Melissa + Matt in the months prior to their wedding. Being a very organized person, Melissa would come to the planning meetings with her “book of knowledge” – a binder that included everything needed to know about her big day! The couple decided to tie the knot at Dellwood Country Club, a beautifully situated venue in Dellwood, MN.

When the day was finally here, the Rustic Elegance team arrived and unpacked the decor boxes and set-up. The ladies prepped for the day with Lady Vamp Artistry rocking their makeup. The tables were decorated with a variety of centerpieces, including lighthouse figurines [the groom is a huge light house fan] which we L O V E D that they incorporated this into their day! The ceremony was set up with minimal decor – wine barrels at the entrance with fall mums, a few memory photos of loved ones, and blanket scarves to keep guests warm throughout the ceremony. After all the set up and preparation, it was finally time to tie the knot!

The ring bearer drove down the center of the aisle in a motorized remote control fire truck, which was O H – S O adorable! It was really fitting due to the groom being a firefighter [and another firetruck came later for pictures!]. After everyone had their smiles and giggles from the ring bearer, it was time for the main event. Melissa + her dad made their grand entrance as they entered down the deck staircase of the Country Club, with Matt watching from the front. They opted to not do a pre-ceremony first look, so this was the first time he was seeing his beautiful bride. After a short + sweet ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktail hour in the Fireside Room before filling into the main dining room for dinner.

The wedding party was seated at a harvest table in the middle of the room, surrounded by round guest tables throughout. Dinner was prepared and served by the Dellwood catering service, with desserts being brought in by Hyvee [which were amazing P I E S!]. After dinner, loving speeches and desserts, it was time to dance! The DJ turned up the music and guests were on the dance floor for the rest of the evening. The couple also played the “shoe game” which made for great fun for all!

Emily + Kyle | Carpenter Nature Center

Ever thought about getting married at a N A T U R E center? Emily + Kyle had the most B E A U T I F U L wedding at the Carpenter Nature Center in Hastings, MN, and we are A L L about it! The Rustic Elegance team of Lynse and Kellie led this wedding and loved every minute of it.

The day began with the ladies + gents getting ready in their separate spaces. Although the weather was a bit chilly outside, everyone’s hearts were W A R M with love for this special day. One of Emily’s bridesmaids, couldn’t make it for the big day, so the couple printed out a life size cardboard cut-out of her so she could still stand up for the ceremony [this included real florals and everything – so creative!]. To keep warm, the bridesmaids wore fur mink stalls to keep warm + stay stylish of course. After taking pre-ceremony pictures with Hattie Ann Photography, it was time for “I do’s”!

The ceremony aisle doubled as a “walking program” vs. the typical paper one – the Rustic Elegance team put signs in the ground on the pathway so that guests could read the information as they took their seats. Strings by Sarah played beautiful string music as the ceremony started. The couples had their dogs as their flower girls [+ they were O H so adorable]. Matt Berdahl was the officiant and did a G R E A T job [as always]! After the couple said Y E S to forever with one another, it was time to head to the reception.

Inside the pavilion, the S T U N N I N G fall decor was spread throughout the space, including different colored pumpkins. They also had an ice sculpture from Ice Occasions [yes it was a donkey, Emily’s F A V animal] that doubled as a booze luge – too F U N N Y! The couple opted to do their first dance before dinner, dancing to “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran. In their middle of the first dance, the wedding party joined for a flash mob to “Uptown Funk”. The wedding party was then seated at their harvest style head table for dinner from River Valley Catering. After dinner comes our favorite thing – D E S S E R T. The cake from Miss Sarah’s Cakery was mouth-watering and also S O cute! We loved the gold tier at the top. After all the guests were full from the good food + great fun, it was time from DJ Dan from Adagio to get the night started. He did a F A N T A S T I C job of getting the guests dancing and keeping the party going! For a late night treat, Green Mill brought in some pizzas for the end of the night snack [guests loved it!].

Tips + Tricks – Bathroom Baskets

If you’re having your wedding at a tent, barn, or outdoor venue, you may want to think about providing a “bathroom basket” for your guests. Many of the bathrooms at these types of venues are plain and simple, and these baskets can decorate the space, while serving a functional purpose. This basket can include anything you feel necessary – but we wanted to throw a little TIPS & TRICKS article your way, including details of how to create the P E R F E C T bathroom basket for your guests.

MUST HAVES [& we know from experience]:
-Medicine: Aspirin, Tylenol, Aleve, Advil
-Hair [I] do’s: Get some hair spray, a brush, comb, bobby pins and ponytails to make sure that your hair is staying in place to dance the night A W A Y.
-Smell ya later: Although everyone was smelling great at the beginning of the night, all the dancing can lead to sweating, and sweating may lead to stink! Add some spray deodorant to your basket, [and maybe some body spray] to keep your night smelling fresh. Also, consider adding some good smelling hand soap!
-Y U M: How great was that dinner? We are sure it was amazing, but to be able to sing your heart on the dance floor, [and not smell it] consider adding breath mints or spray in your basket.
-Accidents [can and will] happen: In case of spillage, adding a Tide-to-Go pen can rid of stains immediately. Adding in wet wipes to help with sticky hands [or situations] is always a promising idea as well.
-Safety first: No wedding is complete without someone needing a Band-Aid. To make sure that you’re not running around looking for one, adding them into your basket can make your night stress-free [& hiring Rustic Elegance can help with this too]!
-U H – O H: Mother nature comes when it pleases, so women’s sanitary items are an absolute must. Nobody wants to spend the rest of their evening worrying about dress stains or being uncomfortable.
-Dry skin [go away!]: Adding in some lotion can ensure guest comfort and smooth skin.
-Got the sniffles? Make sure guests have access to some Kleenex in the bathroom for those battling colds or allergies [& to make sure they get back onto the dance floor]!

NICE ADDITIONS [if you’re feeling extra F A N C Y]:
-In case of a manicure disaster: Who wants chipped nails at a wedding [hint: not us]? Clear nail polish, nail clippers, and file can help with this potential issue.
-Got lint, dust, or animals around your wedding? Think about adding a lint brush to the basket to keep everyone lint/pet hair [& care] free!
-First Aid Kit [don’t forget, safety first!]: Think about purchasing a mini-first aid kit, or making your own! This should include antiseptic wipes, Neosporin, burn cream, eye drops, antacid, antihistamines, Q-tips, cough drops, etc.
-C U T E [mirror] notes: This is a fun idea that we’ve seen a few of our couples do! Add a note to the mirror[s] in the bathroom with funny quotes. One of our favorites? “You look oh so pretty [or handsome for the fellas] – now get out and D A N C E!”

PROBABLY DON’T NEED [but you never know]:
-Wardrobe malfunctions: Dancing too hard and your dress [or trousers for the gents – Y E S, we have seen this happen] rips? Having a mini-sewing kit in your bathroom basket could be a game changer! Don’t forget about safety pins – it’s always easy to just P I N it back together.
-Other miscellaneous items: Floss, baby powder, tweezers

DON’T FORGET THE DUDES [they need some pampering too]:
-Stay F R E S H: Consider adding cologne spray, breath mints, and men’s deodorant to keep the fresh smell all day [& night]!

While we are on the ever so exciting topic of B A T H R O O M S, we wanted to provide some tips to those couples who choose to have their wedding in their backyard and need to bring bathrooms onsite! Porta-Potties will most likely be used in these types of situations. Typically, we recommend at least one potty for every 60 guests. Handicap ones can be great for the ladies, along with those in need, [it provides a little more room for those big dresses & you can decorate the inside with cute décor, a table for your bathroom basket, or maybe even a full-length mirror!]. Don’t forget most of these do not come with lighting inside, so once the dinner is over and the dancing is underway, you will need too light these up. We recommend adding sticky lights or battery lanterns to the inside. Also, consider using a 10 x 10 pop up tent with a cocktail table underneath for guests to wait under [protects guests in case of rain and provides them a place to set their cocktail]. A handwashing station, with real running water and paper towels, can also be a nice addition [and pretty cheap]. Another option is to consider renting a luxury bathroom trailer from a company such as On-Site [p.s. these trailers can even come with AC – see some of their photos below!].

Kelsey + Isaac | Creekside Farm

In the end of October 2017, Kelsey + Isaac had an A M A Z I N G wedding at Creekside Farm. Planned by Rustic Elegance team members Angie + Kellie, this wedding was definitely one for the books! Tammy, the owner at Creekside Farm, was so extremely H E L P F U L on this day, and absolutely wonderful to work with! The couple spent their morning getting ready in the respective bridal/groom suites. They then met for outdoor F I R S T L O O K photos in their unplanned winter wonderland! Kellie helped keep the bride’s dress out of the snow by standing in the back of some of the photos and holding up the bottom of her dress so it didn’t get ruined! Although the snow was unplanned, it made for G O R G E O U S photos, and Kellie noted how fun it was taking them in the snow. Photographers from Midwest LifeShots Photography, Scott + Jen, were so easy to work with and Kellie said her cheeks were sore the next day from giggling so much through the shoot!

The couple was planning for an outdoor ceremony, but to their surprise, they were blessed with S N O W [turning their fall wedding into a W I N T E R wonderland!]. Implementing the back-up plan, the Rustic Elegance team swapped their outdoor ceremony into an an intimate indoor ceremony inside of the barn. During their elegant ceremony, guests were able to enjoy the warmth from the in-floor heating that the barn had [a R A R E find]. The wedding party entered from the side of the barn, and the flower girl was also escorted down the aisle in a wagon [absolutely A D O R A B L E]. Kelsey made her grand entrance through the large barn doors at the back of the barn with her dad + guests were tearing up at the beautiful moment [and Kellie may have shed a tear or two, too!]. Kelsey + Isaac also had a unique unity tree planting during their ceremony, which was S U P E R special [we loved this idea!].

After the ceremony, we flipped the barn into a very special reception venue with the help of Tammy and the Creekside Farm staff. Distinctive Catering & Events did a fantastic job prepping the buffet food for the night, and even cooked up the late night snack of wood fire pizzas [so D E L I C I O U S]. For dessert, guests enjoyed Dippin Dots and Nothing Bundt Cakes [Y U M]. After dinner, guests enjoyed a slideshow of the couple on a screen provided by Creekside [what a F U N way to look back on memories of the couple!]. As the night progressed and the dancing started, DJ Dan from Adagio DJ Entertainment had the guests dancing the night away, and as always, is so F U N to work with! Rustic Elegance cleaned up the reception area and packed the trailer back up with decor at the end of the night. We took home the flower arrangements, per the couples request, and donated them the following morning to Golden Living Center in Wayzata, which created lots of S M I L E S!

Nicole + Dan | Bloom Lake Barn

At Rustic Elegance, we work with couples across MN & WI to help their weddings run smoothly and so that they don’t have to worry about the details, and get to E N J O Y their perfect day [no matter what comes in the way]. Nicole + Dan were nothing less than an amazing couple, and were equally great to work with. Kellie was the lead planner for Nicole + Dan, and knew from her first meeting with these two lovebirds that she was going to love working with them.

The wedding was at Bloom Lake Barn & we absolutely L O V E this venue. Adam & Monique are so easy to work with and we had four weddings in our 2017 wedding season at this venue, all which ran perfectly. We would highly recommend this venue to any couple looking for a barn venue.

As the girls were preparing for the wedding, Nicole and her girlfriends got henna tattoos for the day [which led to A M A Z I N G photos]. 5.28.17 was a day where we weren’t sure exactly what mother nature was thinking. We started their ceremony outside, but it started raining in the middle of their ceremony, so we I M M E D I A T E L Y implicated our backup plan and moved the ceremony indoors. This move created such a thrilling experience for all involved [us included] and created an intimate ceremony unlike any other wedding. Their grand entrance into the reception was led by a drum line [what a fun way to enter as Mr. & Mrs.!]. The guy friends along with the bride & groom entered into the room and met up with the girl friends who were in the middle of the room, and then did a fun group dance while the other guests watched. This was a super cool way to enter and brought some F U N energy into the reception to start off the night.

Round Barn Farm – Styled Shoot

As a wedding coordinator, we have some A M A Z I N G opportunities that come our way. One of such is being a part of a styled shoot. This fall, we were able to take part in a styled shoot at Round Barn Farm, and it couldn’t have turned out any B E T T E R! This barn is located in Red Wing MN, and features [absolutely] beautiful views of the Mississippi River Valley. The barn itself is a sixty foot high round barn, and is surrounded by greenery [fun fact: the barn was built in 1914 – W O W!].

We tried to think a little out of the ordinary for this shoot, and pair some non-traditional fall colors together, while still ensuring that they complement one another, and leave a romantic vibe in the air. We settled on burgundy, gold and black details which turned out to be S T U N N I N G.

We tried to think a little out of the ordinary for this shoot, and pair some non-traditional fall colors together, while still ensuring that they complement one another, and leave a romantic vibe in the air. We settled on burgundy, gold and black details which turned out to be S T U N N I N G.

For this shoot, we were S O lucky to have the help of S O many vendors. The bride’s wedding gown was a feature from Bridal Accents Couture, and incorporated gorgeous lace embellishments. Fringe Boutique provided E L E G A N T gold jewelry for our ladies which added an extra sweet touch. The bridesmaids were outfitted in long, burgundy dresses in two different styles [tip: this style is I N – having your bridesmaids in different styles of dresses looks fun for pictures A N D ensures that everyone is comfortable in their dress!]. Also, because fall weddings can get a little C O O L in the MN // WI area, we featured fur wraps to keep our ladies heated during the shoot. The A D O R A B L E flower girl is wearing a simple white dress with burgundy accents [sash + floral crown] to complement the wedding color scheme. The groom was dressed in a traditional black suit with a burgundy bow tie [L O V E] and pocket square. The ring bearer wanted to be dressed the same as the groom, and the outcome is just too C U T E!

The florals throughout the day were nothing short of P E R F E C T! Studio B did a fantastic job tying in burgundy, red, and purple arrangements throughout the day. The bouquets even had blueberries [so C R E A T I V E]. Hanging amaranthus were also used throughout the day to add more of the burgundy pop to our shoot.

The Round Barn Farm is seemingly B E A U T I F U L by nature. For decor for this shoot, we decided to focus on this natural beauty outdoors, and keep the ceremony sites decor simple. The fun thing about the Round Barn Farm is that they have 2 ceremony site locations to choose from when planning your S P E C I A L day, so we wanted to showcase these outstanding options. For ceremony site #1, We’ve Got It Covered used G O R G E O U S white draping to frame the site, and add a nice simple touch to the ceremony backdrop. We also utilized some of the hanging amaranthus on the ceremony draping, and tied black sashes on the backdrop and chairs for another simple touch. Studio B created a hanging floral ball with burgundy blooms, as well as simple greenery for the couple to stand underneath. Love Letters designed a F U N chalkboard sign at the end of the aisle for added decor [which we A D O R E D]. For ceremony site #2, We’ve Got it Covered used simple elegant white draping on a large tree, paired with an adorable chalkboard [again by the talented Love Letters] at the end of this aisle as well.

On to the R E C E P T I O N! For this, we styled two different tablescapes – one for guests, and one for the head table. The guest tables featured burgundy, cream, and gold color schemes. The chairs were accented by a burgundy + lace sash to further complement the romantic theme. For the centerpiece features, we used gold lanterns with cream candles, gold floral vases, birch table number holders, floral watermark table numbers + menu cards designed by the great Ink Well Minneapolis, and a burgundy table runner. We also added burgundy blooms, berries, and a subtle amount of greenery compliment our color scheme throughout the tablescape.

For the head table, we used M O R E greenery, as well as a few more black accent details, like plate chargers and napkins. For the head table backdrop, we used burgundy draping with greenery hanging from birch branches. A long garland with gold votive candles was used to center the burgundy bouquets and gold pillar candle holders.

For the reception decor, Adagio Djay Entertainment added some A M A Z I N G up-lighting to the dance floor, and we were ready to dance [all night long!]. We also featured some cozy couches for guests to sit on in the bottom level of the barn, which were rentals from the Rustic Elegance furniture collection. We’ve Got It Covered added some extra draping for a nice finishing touch to this area.

And last, but D E F I N I T E L Y not least, our dessert featured a stunning burgundy tiered cake designed by Miss Sara’s Cakery. The top tier was even painted gold to go with the theme. She also provided amazing wedding themed cookies and other small desserts placed on stands and trays to fill the dessert table [which was an old horse wagon situated inside the barn].The dessert stands + platters featured are rentals from Rustic Elegance, and are great options to add a little more rustic decor in to your special day!
