Backyard Wedding | Molly + Justin

Molly + Justin said their “I do’s” on the groom’s family property, and celebrated after with a huge tent reception. Lead planner Kellie loved working with the family [Justin’s brother, Josh also had a tent wedding that Rustic Elegance helped plan] and working on the charming property. It was so fun to plan a wedding for siblings – only a few months between the two!

The morning of the wedding, lead planner Kellie and assistants Kelly + Kayla arrived to help prep the tent + decor. The weather was iffy in the morning – the team watched closely and prayed for it to clear up in time for an O U T S I D E ceremony. The ladies + gentlemen got ready in their home on the property. Once it cleared up, the couple was able to do their first look at the ceremony site [complete with a G O R G E O U S homemade arch] that was sweet and intimate.

After the first look, the wedding party captured some photos inside in intermittent sprinkling of rain, and then got some W O N D E R F U L photos in the woods. Finally, it was time to make the call on having the ceremony under the tent or trusting Mother Nature not to rain any longer. 30 minutes prior to the wedding, Rustic Elegance + the couple decided to have the wedding outside, and with the help family + friends, were able to move the chairs out from the tent into ceremony formation. Without a hitch, the ceremony went perfectly, with only a slight drizzle at the beginning. The couple recessed by doing a receiving line to greet their guests, and guests moved over to the tent for cocktail hour.

The couple then took a ride on the horse drawn carriage provided by Independence Carriage [who we just love working with] and took in a moment alone before joining guests back for cocktail hour. By this time the sun was out in full force, and guests were able to enjoy horse rides until dinner [so fun + guests L O V E D it!]. Dinner was catered in by Russell’s on the Lake and was A M A Z I N G! Guests enjoyed dinner, speeches and laughter before it was time to dance. PM Enterprise DJ Luke got the party started post-dinner, and guests delighted in yummy cupcakes for dessert! As the end of the night neared, guests lined up for a sparkler send-off to wish the newlyweds fair well for the evening!

Kristin + Jason | Furber Farm

Kirsten + Jason tied the knot in June at the Furber Farm + we L O V E D everything about planning with them! The ladies got their hair & makeup done by Shelly Blackstone, and then arrived at the venue in a big, P I N K party bus. They then set up shop in the gorgeous bridal suite to get dressed for the day. The bridal suite at Furber Farm is amazing! While the ladies continued prepping, the guys arrived and headed to the groom’s room. They enjoyed playing some card games before getting into their suits. Once both parties were ready, it was first look time! Dodge Creative set up their first look on the deck at the farm, despite the crazy weather that day [a little bit of rain & humidity]. After the couple had their first look, the wedding party joined for a few pre-ceremony photos outside when the rain let up.

Meanwhile, Rustic Elegance was busy setting up the decor for the day. The couple decided to have their ceremony indoors due to the humidity and potential threat of rain, so we set up for the ceremony where the head table would later be placed. They had a great wood folding backdrop, paired with Rustic Elegance wine barrels. Cindy’s Floral Creations brought in S T U N N I N G arrangements, including accent pieces for on top the barrels. They also provided G O R G E O U S greenery with purple accents for the head table! Other prep for the day included setting out the memory photos, placed on the Rustic Elegance ladder, arranging the place cards, and setting out the handmade card box on the gift table [which was made out of a wooden stump!].

Finally, it was time for the couple to get married. The wedding party entered from the first floor and processed up to the ceremony site. Then the bride, escorted by her uncle, made their grand entrance via the staircase from the second level. Officiant Matt Berdahl went through the ceremony with ease, doing a great job as always. The couple opted to do a unity symbol, with three different sand colors, and included the groom’s daughter in their ceremony. A kiss sealed the deal, and then it was cocktail hour!

Guests enjoyed drinks while the room was being flipped for dinner. Distinctive Catering did a F A N T A S T I C job keeping up with the large crowd for the plated meal (240 guests) & the food was so T A S T Y, too! Desserts were provided by Distinctive as well and consisted of cute & yummy cupcakes. After dinner and speeches, DJ Kelsey (rock star) from Adagio started off the night with the formal dances, and kept the party going all night long! In the world of weddings, there are many different types of planners that can be hired to assist with your special day! Not to mention many different types of planning packages. In order to better understand the world of planners, we decided to write a T I P S + T R I C K S article on the different types of options out there!

FULL SERVICE WEDDING PLANNING
A full service wedding planner usually coordinates and plans all aspects of the day, down to the tiniest details. Communication during the planning process can begin as soon as you get engaged and normally will include unlimited communication. A Full Service Wedding Planner will help create the wedding concept and offer overall design assistance. They will book and communicate with all vendors (venue, caterer, officiant, photographer, videographer, DJ, florist, beauty, desserts, transportation etc.) and they may even attend these vendor meetings and help keep track of when payments are due. They will also offer assistance in keeping on point with the budget. This type of planner may assist in ordering invitations and keeping track of your RSVP’s. They also usually perform all the tasks listed under the Day of Coordinator as well (see below). Of course, A L L companies will vary in the services/packages that they offer, but normally this is a “fully loaded” package, which includes everything you can think of.
Who should  hire a Full Service Wedding Planner:
This might be a good option for someone who lives in a different state/location from where the wedding will be held. A Full Service Wedding Planner package could also be a good option for someone who wants a perfectly planned wedding, but doesn’t have the time, interest or know where to start with planning.

DAY OF COORDINATOR/PACKAGE
There is actually no such thing as just a “Day Of Coordinator”. Although many planners use the title “Day of Coordinator” when describing their services, they are really more like “month-of planners”. Communication with a Day of Coordinator, will usually begin about 30 days before the wedding date. Most of the details will be planned out already and the planners main focus is on executing the details you have set in place. They will help create a timeline of the days events, and execute this timeline to ensure everything runs as planned. They will lead the rehearsal and help make sure the ceremony runs F L A W L E S S L Y. They will act as the point of contact on the wedding day for vendors, guests and the wedding party. They can also help with any last minute problems that arise, setting up decor, pinning on boutonnières and corsages, handing out gratuities and final payments etc. A Day of Coordinator may also help with clean-up at the end of the night (although this may incur an additional cost). Their main focus is making sure the day runs smoothly so that you and your family can enjoy every M I N U T E.
Who should hire a Day Of Coordinator:
To be C O M P L E T E L Y honest, we think everyone getting married should hire a Day Of Coordinator. There is S O much time and money is spent on the wedding day, and we believe that every couple + their family should be able to enjoy the day in low-stress. It is a huge help to have one contact person on site, who knows all the moving parts and can ensure everything goes according to the master plan. Most importantly, hiring a Day Of Coordinator lets the couple and family enjoy the entire wedding without getting bogged down with planning details and questions. Let the planner handle this so more time can be spent with guests.
Cost Range: $1,250-$2,500

DECORATORS + STYLISTS
Not to be confused with wedding planners, but usually are, decorators and stylists are there to help you envision the space on your special day. They can offer in depth help with choosing the style, color pallette, decorations, and overall feel of the wedding day. This type of planner can often come in and set up the morning of your wedding, but isn’t a logistical planner that will execute the wedding timeline and details. They are more focused on making things P R E T T Y.
Who should hire a Decorator or Stylist:
Consider hiring a Decorator or Stylist if you are short on time, have no idea how to decorate your house let alone your entire wedding or if you would like to incorporate new, fresh and creative ideas into your day but are not sure how to do it. Also, you may want your wedding to look A M A Z I N G, but really have no interest in figuring out how to do this – these would be your people.
Cost Range:
Price varies on how involved you would like them to be. They can charge per hour or by one lump sum. $350-$2,000

VENUE COORDINATORS
A venue coordinator is employed by the venue to assist in the big picture details of the ceremony/reception location. The Venue Coordinator will most likely be the main contact when booking the venue and will offer help with general questions about the layout, room flips, food and beverage menu, timing and decor restrictions, etc. Being the expert at this specific venue, most of their focus will be on venue related questions. They most likely do not help with decor ideas, set up, timeline, rehearsals, clean up etc. Venue Coordinators usually do not cost extra and for most “traditional” venues will be included in your price (we say “traditional venues”meaning hotels, golf course, country clubs etc. Most barn or rustic venues do not include a Venue Coordinator – even better reason to hire a Day of Coordinator).

As you can see, there are P L E N T Y of different types of wedding planners and packages out there. These are the most commonly used terms to describe planners, although we at Rustic Elegance don’t fit perfectly into just O N E of these categories. We like to think of ourselves as a crossover between Full Planning, Day of Planning and Decorator. We have picked the most helpful parts of each package and put them into one. If we had to label ourselves, we might be considered Logistical Coordinators. We help with everything listed in the Day of Planner Package, but can also start working with you right from the moment you get engaged and want to make sure the final outcome is decorated to fit you! We specialize in tent, barns and backyard weddings, digging deep into the logistical aspects for wedding day. We also act as the “host” on the day so you, your family and friends can enjoy every minute of your special day. Since you have read this far, you must be considering hiring a planner, We recommend doing your research on what different companies include in their packages, as many packages can differ within the same planner type. Chistine + Jeremy | Backyard Wedding

Christine + Jeremy had the sweetest backyard tent wedding and we had to throw it back to touch on this one. The Rustic Elegance team of Kellie and Danielle started setting up for the day featuring Rustic Elegance rented farm tables, benches, and our cute W O O D bar. As Rustic Elegance prepped, so did the wedding party – with the ladies + gents getting ready in their separate spaces. The bride R O C K E D some super cute cowboy boots – which we were O B S E S S E D with. The wedding party consisted of the couples 2 daughters and 3 sons and made for the C U T E S T pictures by kolorblind Photography. It was then time for their intimate ceremony, featuring a smaller group setting with only family. The day was G O R G E O U S – bright and sunny and perfect for a wedding.

Christine + Jeremy opted for an open house style reception, featuring drinks poured by With a Twist, and wood fire grilled pizzas for dinner [S O – F U N] from Red Rover Pizza. They grilled the pizzas right on-site and even tossed the pizza dough up in the air, not skipping a beat, as guests were W O W E D. Since the bride and groom are “horse people”, they were creative with their guest book, and incorporated a old saddle for people to sign. While guests continued to mingle, DJ Skoolz kept the tunes playing and the dance floor full of energy! Guests enjoyed the laid back feel of the night and celebrating the love of Christine + Jeremy.

Barbara + Jesse | Barn at Dunvilla

Another T H R O W B A C K wedding for you all – we just can’t get enough! Barbara and Jesse had the sweetest church wedding followed by a barn reception. The Rustic Elegance team of Kellie and Kelly worked this wedding together and spent the night in Detroit Lakes [they L O V E getting away for little road trips which include quality time paired with A M A Z I N G weddings!].

The day started out with the ladies + men preparing separately before the first look. The bride and groom laid eyes on each other for the first time at the Barn at Dunvilla [also the reception location] and it was S T U N N I N G! Full of nature and greenery – we couldn’t get enough of this sweet couple! After the pre-wedding pictures with Abby Anderson Photography, the wedding party headed over to Rollag Lutheran Church for the ceremony [the cutest church E V E R!]. The groom’s niece and nephew played their parts as flower girl and ring bearer [+ were O H so adorable]. Then, the bride was escorted down the aisle by her mom and dad, where she met her groom. After they said their “I do’s”, everyone dispersed to the barn for cocktail hour, featuring an appetizer buffet including, wings, cheese + crackers, and salmon [Y U M]! Cocktail hour also featured the guest favors – can koozies with the couples name on it – pink for girls and camo for the gents!

When it was time for the wedding party to do their grand entrance, the song “Jesse’s Girl” [how fitting!] played as the bridal party joined the rest of the guests for dinner. Dinner included a plated salad, accompanied by a buffet dinner from Quality Catering. There was even a special buffet for the K I D S including mac and cheese and chicken fingers. For dessert, Kellie + Kelly cut the cake and served it to the guests + had a B L A S T doing it! Then, it was time for D A N C I N G! Royalty Entertainment got the party started and guests were dancing the night away. For the late night snack, Zorbaz brought in a pile of pizzas – guests were loving it!

Amy + Kevin | Backyard Wedding

Amy + Kevin had the S W E E T E S T backyard wedding! This couple opted to have their ceremony and reception at their home in Wisconsin. As the ladies and gents prepped for the day ahead, the Rustic Elegance team worked on setting up the wedding site. The ceremony was held outside, and the reception and dinner was in their pull barn [so cool!]. The bride wore some A M A Z I N G cowboy boots underneath her dress, and the groomsmen boutonnieres included a shotgun shell – definitely a fun country touch to this wedding! The ceremony was simple and beautiful, and featured a braid as the couple’s unity symbol. After the ceremony, guests headed to the barn for a night of fun, food, and D A N C I N G!

The barn was decorated to P E R F E C T I O N, and featured amazing uplighting from JD at Ignite Lighting and Entertainment. He also added lights around a G O R G E O U S old tree in the front yard, that L I T up the night. The grand entrance into the dinner, was done R O A S T – S T Y L E, telling funny stories about each wedding party member, with the help of DJ JD! The couple gifted mason jars to their guests as a party favor, that doubled to use for their drinks throughout the night – L O V E this idea [and not to mention saves on the amount of garbage]. After dinner, the bride + groom enjoyed their first dance as husband and wife, to the song Soulmate by Josh Turner [+ it was A D O R A B L E]. The aunts provided an assortment of sweet treats for desserts which the Rustic Elegance team carefully placed out. The couple also included a super fun gourmet s’mores station that we set out after dinner along with the desserts – so F U N!

Kaitlin + Matt | Wasner Barn

We absolutely A D O R E D working with Kaitlin and Matt on their wedding. They ended up deciding on T O N S of Rustic Elegance rentals including some furniture, signs, etc. [they even rented the cute directional sign that Rustic Elegance owner Kellie’s 91 year old grandpa hand painted – so C U T E!].

The day started with the ladies prepping their hair and makeup, and getting into the G O R G E O U S dresses. The men got in their suits, suspenders, and bow ties, and were ready to take photos with one of our F A V photographer’s, Jeannine, working for Bellagala [who is so much FUN to work with!]. The wedding party consisted of 7 ladies and 6 men which made for a group full of laughs and S M I L E S as the day went on. While pictures were being taken, the tent was being set up with simple + sweet centerpieces that included pictures of the couple, blue mason jars with Baby’s Breath, candles [made by the couple], and old B O O K S that they had collected. The tables were set with vintage plates for dinner and guests had the option of using mason jars to drink out of – we L O V E D this combo. We also helped set up a C A N D Y bar that was a hit with the guests later in the night.

Kaitlin and Matt got married at a beautiful church and then guests headed over to Wasner Barn for the reception! Guests were able to play yard games in the large grassy area of the barn throughout the evening. For dinner, Divine Swine Catering served up phenomenal food [as always], followed by Y U M M Y desserts from Cake Walk. After dessert – it was time to get the party S T A R T E D! This couple lucked out with a G O R G E O U S night, so they were able to have their dance outside under the stars, with the sweet addition of string lights – so pretty [Jeannine captured some great night photos of this]! They also had a bonfire for guests to enjoy and a late night snack of S ‘ M O R E S! As the night came to a close, the Rustic Elegance team cleaned up all of the guest tables and decor so that the couple could enjoy their first night as a married couple.

Melanie + Dan | Backyard Wedding

Melanie + Dan had such a F U N wedding this past summer! Their ceremony and reception were at the bride’s parents farm and it was so S P E C I A L for everyone involved. The back story of this couple is nothing short of a C U T E love story: they met/dated in high school, but went their separate ways for a while. When they reunited – the sparks flew again and they knew it was meant to be! The flower girl and ring bearer were the bride’s children, and were nothing short of A B S O L U T E L Y adorable [especially in the pictures throughout the day!].

 How A D O R A B L E are these two?!

The ceremony was intimate and sweet, and was underneath the tree that Melanie used to play under as a kid, making it extra special. The set-up for the ceremony and reception was simple, and full of Rustic Elegance rentals! They rented lanterns, tables, a mason jar chandelier, cupcake stands, signage, frame for their seating chart, mirrors, couches, lighting, table runners, chalkboards, ceremony doors, the bar, etc. It was S O much fun setting out and working with the Rustic Elegance decor – we had a B L A S T doing it! The couple also had mason jars filled with kid activities and we loved that special touch for the kid friendly wedding.

The Back 40 Catering did a fantastic job of catering in dinner for the night, and also provided some of the desserts. The other U N I Q U E dessert was mini donuts which were run by Rick and were A M A Z I N G. Guests were given their guest favors of can koozies to use throughout the night, and to use at the fully stocked bar. As the dance was started by the DJ from J Faye Music, the couple provided extra flip-flops for guests to use for their dancing feet [L O V E this idea!]. They also had two bonfire pits that were blazing late into the night. At the end of the night, Kellie & Kelly [with the help of Steve], cleaned up all of the rentals and anything else they could to ease the stress of the couple.

Melanie + Dan – we at Rustic Elegance want to take a moment again to say how T H A N K F U L we are to have met you and we had SO much fun helping with you special day! Lauren + Micah | Backyard Wedding in Glenwood City, WI

Lauren + Micah – where to even start with this love story? These two were so G R E A T to work with and their love for one another was undeniable! Kellie was the lead planner on this wedding and met with the couple during their planning process and knew it was going to be an E L E G A N T [& dreamy] wedding. For one of the planning meetings with Kellie, they also met with their DJ [Jason from Three Six Sound]. It was a fun dual meeting and Kellie learned L O T S about DJing at weddings and all of the F U N planning that goes into making sure the music is a good fit for the crowd. Lauren + Micah also opted to have Rustic Elegance help with their rentals for their day and they D E C K E D their wedding out with our special rustic touches!

The day began with the girls getting ready at the house on the property where the wedding would occur. A List Bridal Hair and Makeup prepped the girls for the day ahead. Rustic Elegance worked on setting the tables in the reception tent, using white linens, complemented by maroon napkins. The couple rented vintage plates from Rustic Elegance, as well as their head table. Pristine Floral added floral arrangements to the center of all of the tables for the P E R F E C T finishing touch. The day was a little chilly, so in order to keep guests warm + toasty, we opted to reach out to our heating experts from Sunbelt Rentals to come and pipe in some last minute heat. The couple then took their photos [which turned out absolutely S T U N N I N G thanks to JLauren Photography] and even got a few with their pup, Cooper!

The couple decided on using family owned land and creating a B E A U T I F U L wedding site from scratch. The ceremony was lined up with rental chairs from Ultimate Events, complemented with a draped arch by We’ve Got it Covered, and finishing touches from Pristine Floral [the outcome was G O R G E O U S]. The aisle was formed by natural trees on the land [it couldn’t have worked out any better!]. Lauren and her dad walked down the aisle accompanied by music from the Loring String Quartet. After the couple said their “I do’s”, Rustic Elegance along with friends and family helped move the chairs from the ceremony to the tent for the reception.

Next, passed appetizers were served by This Little Piggy Catering during a cocktail hour. Cocktail tables [rented from Rustic Elegance] were placed around the reception area for guests to gather before dinner. The couple rented a beer trailer from Liquorhaus, and had Bar Pro as the bartender. As guests were seated they were dismissed to grab their plates and head to the buffet line [with plenty of A M A Z I N G options]. Post speeches and dinner, it was time for some sweets! The dessert table was F I L L E D with cupcakes from Nadia’s Cupcakes, placed elegantly on barrels and a tabletop provided by Rustic Elegance. The couple rented cupcake stands from Rustic Elegance as well, adding a special touch to their display! After dessert, the dance had begun! Three Six Sound did an amazing job luring guests into the large shed where the dance floor was and kept the guests involved until the end of the night.

Kristina + Derek | Steele County Fairgrounds

Kristina + Derek were so F U N to plan with! From the first meeting with Rustic Elegance, lead planner Kellie knew that their day was going to be a P E R F E C T start to their forever!

The ladies had their hair and makeup done at the house with Amber Budd + Brittany Kinne prior to heading out to take some photos with Whitnei Abel Photography. Kristina and her bridesmaids had G O R G E O U S floral bouquets designed by her cousin, Sara, who works for Creative Concepts Floral. Post-pictures, the wedding party headed to Rice Lake Church for an intimate ceremony with close friends and family.

The reception was at the Beer Garden barn on the Steele County fairgrounds and made for a G R E A T area for all their guests [they had about 350 total – wow!]! As far as decor, the picnic tables were lined with lace table runners, centerpieces including bundles of baby’s breath in copper vases, and an added vintage touch of old soda bottles. There were also high top cocktail tables set up throughout the space to account for standing room for their large guest count. The inside of the barn was draped with S T U N N I N G cafe lights from We’ve Got It Covered that gave an extra rustic element to the space. The couple rented wine barrels from Rustic Elegance which were used as decor outside of the reception venue [we added a cute sign provided by the couple and some extra florals to make it look super C U T E!]. For their guest book, the couple had wine bottles labeled with their significant anniversaries to come and asked guests to sign the wine bottles [adorable!]. The couple also brought in their own yard games to add to the Beer Garden’s terrace and it was the place to be for the kids that attended their reception!

When the couple arrived at the reception site as newlyweds, they said a few words to their guests before dismissing everyone to head to the buffet. Torey’s Restaurant did the buffet style catering for their informal flow style dinner throughout the night, with a wide variety of food options, and also manned the bar for guests. Desserts were served from rented Rustic Elegance cupcake stands [on top of some more of our wine barrels] with the cupcakes being provided by Perfect Day Cakes [which were Y U M M Y!]. The couple also had their Photo Booth set up for guests to use [TC Photobooth] which was a H U G E hit. After dinner + speeches, it was time to D A N C E! The Fabulous Love Handles did a G R E A T job and were very fun and engaging with the crowd [especially the little kiddos!]. The kiddos also had a blast playing with the G I A N T balloons, board games, and glow bracelets that the couple provided! In front of the band stage on the dance floor, the couple added cute marquee letters spelling L O V E that lit up the dance floor [so fun!].
