We are excited to share with you the Legacy Hill Farm wedding venue! This venue is filled with history as it has been farmstead for three generations! Joan and Britni-the mother-daughter duo, have renovated the original five farm buildings to create this one of a kind wedding venue, where memories can continue to be made!
Legacy Hill Farm is located in Welch Minnesota and can host up to 300 guests. The grounds consist of a beautifully designed pavilion, with a fireplace and panoramic views of the country side. White washed wood tables & bistro chairs are included and make the perfect combo for a rustic style reception. The pavilion is adjacent to a lounge/bar area and includes a firepit – perfect for cocktail hour.
The ceremony site at Legacy Hill Farm is breath taking…It features wood church pews and views of rolling fields-not to mention the massive wood doors at the end of the aisle. We are so excited to be out here a few times this summer to help with Planning and Decor rental. We highly recommend checking out Legacy Hill Farm for your wedding venue!
We are so excited to share with you Leah & Liz’s wedding that took place at Camrose Hill Farm, bright and early on a Sunday morning in June. The ladies decided that a brunch celebration at this fairy-tale like venue perfectly fit their style. When touring Camrose Hill Farm with them and talking about their wedding version, I quickly became super excited and couldn’t wait for their wedding day to come. This venue is AMAZING!! It has everything: Not one, but two ceremony locations to pick from, an outdoor tented space in the middle of the woods for the reception, a cute cottage to get ready in and even a barn to host the ceremony, in case of rain. The fact that Camrose Hill Farm is also a florist couldn’t be more perfect-flowers, greens, vines and gardens are present in abundance throughout the grounds. Walking into Camrose is like waking up in a dream.
Rustic Elegance arrived on-site bright and early at 6:30am (we aren’t morning people so this was an accomplishment already). Ultimate Events arrived and worked quickly to take down the tables chairs etc from a wedding held there the night before, and then reset everything! With a 10am ceremony start, we had to work quickly to get every last detail set up perfectly. There was a pretty high chance of rain forecast that day, so we had to make a quick decision if the chairs (that couldn’t get wet) should be set up in the barn for the backup plan, but luckily we went with our gut and had the ceremony outside and it turned out to be a super sunshiny day.. yay!
Leah and Liz arrived and proceeded to get ready separately in the cute little cottage. A friend of theirs did their hair and make-up as they anxiously awaited their first look. Jackson with A Frame Forward Photography captured this special moment as they saw each other for the first time. (love these pics of them btw)! Jackson was super fun to work with throughout the day… He ran around all day and I don’t think I ever saw him stand still and not have his camera in hand, ready to catch the shot! Thank you Jackson for sharing these great photos with us!
Guests started arriving and enjoyed coffee and biscotti as they waited for the ceremony to begin. We helped direct parking and escorted the elderly guests to the ceremony site using a golf cart. The ladies signed the Ketubah and marriage license among family and friends in the cottage. Danielle, one of our amazing assistants, worked to get the flower girls and ring bears ready; no small task! Leah and Liz named this group “The Giggle” since there were 12 of them! One little guy even got to ride down the aisle in a wagon. All the girls were decorated with a flower crown and a basket of pedals and the boys were given bubble wands. Once ‘The Giggle’ was ready, the musicians in place, Melissa the Rabi situated front and center, and all the guests were seated, we were ready to start.
What a great moment: The sun was shining, bubbles were flowing, flower pedals everywhere, musicians playing away and everyone made it down the aisle ON TIME!-despite our time constraint. This is where we sit back, look around and our heart smiles because we truly love what we do!
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed yard games, fun photo props, dancing to the musicians, a fresh squeezed juice bar (provided by With a Twist), and also just took in all the gardens and the beautiful scenery. Deco Catering busily prepared a delicious brunch spread. Wow! I mean Wow! The brunch they put on was truly amazing! Not only was the food top notch, the buffet was beautifully set up and their service was amazing! We highly recommend Deco Catering! As people went through the buffet line, we worked on getting the dessert buffet set up with Nadia Cakes (our fav). We love that Leah and Liz chose to display the cupcakes on our tree cupcake stand, from our Rental Collection, which perfectly complimented the surroundings.
As the afternoon came to a close, the couple partook in a fun family tradition called the Abrems Dance (See video below). This was so fun to see…family and friends attached bells to their legs, surround Leah and Liz, and danced in a circle around them to the sweet sound of fiddler music. How heart warming!
We are so lucky to have been a part of Leah and Liz’s wedding and loved every minute of helping them plan the perfect day! We wish these two the best in love and happiness and so thank you for including Rustic Elegance in your special day!
One of the awesome things about being a Wedding Planner is that you come across some amazingly talented wedding professionals! We are super excited to spotlight a few of our fav’s on our blog. Today we are stoked to share an interview we did with Jeannine, from Jeannine Marie Photography (Thanks Jeannine)!! Jeannine is so super passionate about what she does and will surely bring 100% enthusiasm to your wedding day. Not to mention she has some pretty mad skills in the photo department- We love planning weddings where Jeannine is the photographer! Read below to learn a lil more about what makes her tick and check out a few of her images after the interview.
What makes you smile?
I never really stop smiling.
What other hobbies do you enjoy?
Can we consider eating, sleeping and cuddling with my family as a hobby?! I am self employed…I work all the time! However, I work all the time because I am obsessed with my career.
What romantic film do you like best?
More like film(s)…The Princess Bride has always my favorite, The Little Mermaid and Never Been Kissed.
What is something people don’t know about you?
I was once a paid fishing guide. Well kind of, I worked at Hiawatha Beach Resort on Leech Lake for seven years and each week I took the resort kids out fishing for a couple hours. My brother is 22 years younger than me. I met my husband online in 2004, he was living on Cape Cod. A few months later I moved out there.
What is your favorite dessert?
I don’t discriminate.
Why did you get into wedding biz?
Cake, hugs, a day of gigantic laughs and a big party…. psssh I’m in! I have always wanted to be a photographer. I was exploring different options as a student and found a craigslist ad for a wedding photographer I really liked so I reached out to assist him. That first wedding season had me hooked.
How long have you been a photographer?
I have been photographing weddings since 2007.
How would you describe your style?
My style is a combination of photojournalistic and editorial. There are times in the day that are exclusively photojournalistic for example the ceremony and reception times. During the portraits I photograph more creative, directive and editorial. I’ll make jokes and have people interact which will create prompted candid moments.
What’s your favorite wedding moment to photograph?
Oh gosh, I have to pick one?! Well that’s impossible. I love so many… the excitement of the bride finally in her dress, first looks with her dad, the joy and relief of a couple walking back down the aisle after the wedding.
What do you love most about shooting outdoor/rustic events?
I grew up on a farm in Northern Minnesota. Spending weekends at weddings in barns and backyards makes living in the metro area so much more bearable!
Why are you in love with your job?
I LOVE weddings for so many reasons! Getting to witness couples commitment to each other in front of all their friends and family is something that is truly priceless. It is a day filled with so many beautiful moments and emotions. I am around people all day and I get to flex my creative muscles. The adrenaline starts the morning of the wedding and doesn’t wind down well past the time I am home.
What is your favorite part of the wedding day?
There are so many to choose from!! Unexpected moments are my favorite. But moments I can anticipate propel my excitement, for example: the deep breath a bride has once the dress is on, giddiness of a couple walking down the aisle and the hugs and tears that come from the first wedding party and family that make it back to the couple, oh and, the father-daughter dance leaves me misty eyed most nights.
Any tips for couples when deciding on a photographer?
Meet your photographer and feel comfortable with them. They will be spending your wedding day with you and all your family and friends. If you aren’t comfortable in front of the camera it will show in the photos.
What advice would you give couples?
Enjoy YOUR day. Whatever your concerns may be on your wedding day pass, them off to friends or family or BETTER YET, hire a wedding planner. In the months or years it took to plan this day it is over in the matter of a few hours. Don’t waste it with worry.
This past fall, we had the pleasure of being a part of Bloom Lake Barn’s open house. This 10,000 square foot barn, located in Scafer MN is definitely a venue to check out if you are considering a laid back, fun wedding/reception! Adam and Monique-the owners are wonderful and it was so fun hearing about their passion/journey in converting their barn into a wedding/event venue. The barn consists of two levels, the lower level being perfect for cocktail hour, including a bar and pool tables. The the loft makes a wonderful dining space that can host up to 300 guests! We love the how bright it is up here and how the sun shines through the vaulted wall boards! Chandeliers and light strings have been carefully placed throughout the barn. We also love the rustic bar and the handmade wood tables (which are included in the rental). As far as the ceremony, they offer a few different options, one that even includes a lake view- love it!!
We so enjoyed helping Katie and Daniel tie the knot at the BWB Ranch in Laporte MN! We love the BWB Ranch – As you enter the long winding driveway, you feel like you are entering another country. The setting couldn’t be any more beautiful and Julie, the owner, is amazing! Laporte was somewhat of a mini destination for guests, (and us), but it was great fun and everyone was together all weekend! Most of the guests stayed at Chase on the Lake Resort in Walker MN and the wedding party stayed at Kee-Nee-Moo-Sha, a family resort in Hackensack, MN.
The wedding day started off with Katie and bridesmaids getting their hair and make-up done by SM Makeup Inc. (who are amazing btw)-meanwhile we arrived at the barn to start setting up. We loved the decor Katie chose-simple, elegant and rustic! A color pallet which consisted of sage, gold and navy was chosen to reflect the colors in nature-trees, sun and the lake. Gold wine bottles with wild flowers, birch candle holders, along with terrariums-which made by Katie’s Aunt, were placed on the guest tables.
After Katie and Daniel were ready and looking their best, Tim Larsen Photography captured their first look! Tim is an amazing photographer with a great sense of style and eye to catch “the shot”. We loved working with him throughout the day!
The couple decided on an Interfaith ceremony which included Jewish traditions. We lined up the wedding party, including the 6 flower girls, complete with their flower crowns. The couple chose on a trio of musicians for the ceremony, which add a nice romantic touch. Katie was escorted under the chuppah by both of her parents. The ceremony consisted of signing the ketubah, sharing wine and came to a close with the traditional glass breaking.
After the ceremony the guests headed up to the barn and enjoyed the couples chosen signature drinks: blackberry mojitos, old-fashioned’s and sangrias. Appetizers were passed while guests took in the scenery and played yard games. Katie and Daniel enjoyed a little alone time while eating their first meal together as a married couple. Cafe Racer served a delicious plated dinner (on Rustic Elegance’s vintage plates). After dinner and eating yummy cake by Butter Cream Bakery, the guests enjoyed dancing by Ntertainment and smores. The couple also took part in the Hora-the traditional chair dance-so fun and festive!
Congrats to you Katie and Daniel! We so enjoyed working with you and wish you a lifetime of love and happiness! We appreciate you including Rustic Elegance in your day to help with planning an decor! Also a special thanks to Tim Larsen Photography for sharing these amazing photos with us!!
Months after the wedding we were happy to find out that Katie and Daniel’s day was chosen to be published in the Spring/Summer issue of Central Minnesota Bridal Magazine! Check out page 31 for 5 pages of wedding fun from their day!
